The Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki scored 32 points in Friday night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, being the top performer who led the Dallas team to a tight 99-98 victory.
The Mavericks had allowed at least 100 points in four of their last five games. After the Thunder shot nearly 50 percent in the first half, the Mavericks held Oklahoma City to 36 percent shooting (14 of 39) the rest of the way.
“We have been struggling defensively,” Nowitzki said. “We wanted to make some adjustments defensively, and I think in the second half they worked pretty good.”
The victory ended Mavericks’ two-game home losing streak that had Rick Carlisle questioning his team’s defense. There looked to be some carry over into the first half as the Thunder took advantage of 10 Mavericks turnovers for a 55-48 lead at halftime. Jason Terry scored 21 points, and Josh Howard and Jason Kidd each contributed 11 points in the team’s ninth consecutive win over the Thunder in Dallas since 2004.
As for those in Thunder jerseys, Kevin Durant scored 30 points and had 13 rebounds as the top performer and the second best performer Russell Westbrook added 18 points and 3 assists. As I mentioned above, it was a narrow loss and Durant’s performance was much better than what he gave when the two teams met in December, when he had only 12 points.

Celtics forward Wallace missed Monday game
The Boston Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace missed Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks because of soreness on his left forefoot. Brian Scalabrine replaced him to start the game.
The decision was announced by Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss a few minutes before the game. He said that Wallace had trouble pushing off when he jumped so coach Doc Rivers decided to give him the night off.
“He got to start working out today for the first time,” Rivers said. “Now it’s just a conditioning thing. We want to make sure he gets strong and back in shape because he literally hasn’t done anything. We figure 10 days to two weeks, that’s what it’ll take.”
Averaging 10 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, Wallace was originally a replacement to Kevin Garnett, who hyperextended his right knee on Dec. 28 while playing against the Golden State Warriors. According to Rivers, Garnett will not wear back his No. 5 Celtics jersey to play basketball until at least 10 days later.

Iverson may not be available for All-Star game with knee problem
Although getting the second most votes behind the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade for the East Conference starting guard, the Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson may not be available to play the All-Star game even if he eventually is chosen to the team. An arthritic left knee has caused him to hesitate on the decision.
The 34-year-old Iverson hobbled into the Sixers’ locker room after their loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. Saying that he had the knee drained again before the game and it continues to give him trouble, Iverson told reporters he has not entirely ruled out playing, but just wanting to be smart about decision.
But one thing is for sure—Iverson will not put on his 76ers jersey to play Saturday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons, a team was with last season but reduced him to a bench player and did not have him play much for the second half of the season.

The Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard surely would like to receive a win as the best birthday gift. He had it on Nov. 8, his 24th birthday, by leading the Magic to a 97-86 win over the Los Angeles Clippers, also the team’s sixth straight victory.
Howard contributed 25 points and 11 rebounds to the victory. The second largest contribution was made by Jason Williams wearing #44 Magic jersey, who scored 16 points while hitting four 3-pointers for the Magic. Not the Magic is in pace with the Boston Celtics atop the Eastern Conference with their 11th victory in 12 games. The win also marks a new franchise record of winning 8 consecutive road games for a single season.
As for the losing team the Clippers, who won five of seven games before Tuesday, they had to face the sixth loss to Magic. Eric Gordon scored 21 points and Baron Davis had 18 and 11 assists, but they did not managed to save the team.
