The New York Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez finally convinced others that he was able to return before training camp and would not miss any part of the regular season, which is about three months away. He has been fully recovered from the knee surgery and took full part in team workouts for the first time on Tuesday.
Sanchez injured his left knee during the 2009 season and had a surgery in February to repair the patella-stabilizing ligament. A lot of people worried that he could miss the whole offseason and could hardly return in time for the 2010 season, but the fact was the quarterback returned earlier than expected. Even though the team is not rushing him back, Sanchez still wants to return as soon as possible to prepare for the regular-season games, especially the rematches with the quarterback wearing No. 4 Brett Favre jersey. Sanchez needs to win a game over Favre to prove that he is a better starting quarterback then the 40-year-old man, who played with the Jets for only one season but still left much pressure on his successor.
He could hardly prove, as Favre has not made his decision on playing status for 2010 season yet. Even if he returns, at age 41, Favre is not expected to have a better season than last year and people won’t be surprised if he is beaten by Sanchez, who is much younger and smarter in moving.
